Marie Madeleine (Maria Magdalena)
I love you
I love you all.
I love the creatures
the crawling creatures,
the slipperiest and dirtiest creatures
among you.
As I am a creature myself.
Come to me.
You can hold me,
you can also beat me if you wish.
I love people
Those who only love normal people
hate everyone
Marie Madeleine (Mary Magdalene) is an experiment in which director Chokri Ben Chikha departs from the book by Dimitri Verhulst Monoloog van iemand die het gewoon werd tegen zichzelf te praten. The story is based on the life of the Senegalese prostitute Marie Madeleine, in whose arms a renowned Flemish cyclist died in Senegal. This production is a homage to Marie Madeleine and all her colleagues in the prostitution/consolation business, with Shertise Solano as your charming hostess.
'What binds me has been slain, and what turns me about has been overcome […] and from the fetter of oblivion which is transient."
(Gospel according to Mary Magdalene)
